Detail, providing self-winding, adds weight and thickens watches that is unacceptable for women’s watches. A significant disadvantage is that the repair of automatic winding mechanism is very complicated. That is why, in case of breakage you should be prepared for the fact that this device may be removed from the watch, and your watch will turn into conventional mechanical, requiring manual winding. Despite the relatively high error accuracy, the need to wind watch every day, their dependence on weather conditions (excessive humidity is harmful for spring mechanical watches, they are sensitive to dust), the popularity of mechanical wrist watch in the world is not falling. With proper use and timely prevention, watch mechanism will work properly for decades.
The second type is quartz watches. Unlike the first type power supply mechanism in this case is regular or solar battery. Pendulum is replaced by quartz crystal in quartz watches mechanism. Electronic generator based on quartz crystal provides stable pulses to the stepping motor that actuates watch gear wheel mechanism. That, in turn, moves the hand on the dial. Quartz watches, unlike mechanical may have not only dial with hands, but a digital display. As oscillation frequency does not change, quartz watches are highly accurate, comparing favorably to mechanical watches. Accuracy error for most quartz watches ranges from +20 to -20 seconds per month. It is not necessary, and you can wear them occasionally, without worrying that your wath can stop. But, alas, there is nothing eternal and quartz crystal eventually begins to age leading to mechanism malfunction. Although in theory the durability of quartz watches should not yield to mechanical, yet mechanical watches are considered to have longer service life. All these statements are also true for used and discounted watches.
